HOURS OF OPERATION:
The house is shown by guided
tour year-round. For tour schedule,

The elegantly furnished mansion at Gore Place is
called “the Monticello of the North” and architectural
historians consider it to be the most significant Federal
period mansion in New England. Set on 50 acres of
land including gardens, sweeping lawns, and a farm
with chickens, goats, and sheep, the museum is an
oasis of peace in our busy urban landscape. Open year-
round, the mansion house is shown by guided tour.
The museum offers a full calendar of special events
including the popular Sheepshearing Festival, concerts,
family activities, exhibits, special themed tours,
and holiday teas. In addition, educational programs
for preschoolers, school groups, scouts, and home
schoolers include tours, outdoor adventures, story
times, and farm related activities.
The grounds and gardens, including a 50’x80’ tent
and 1793 carriage house, offer the perfect setting
for weddings, functions, and corporate events April
through November.
Gore Place is located on Gore Street, just off Route
20 on the Waltham/Watertown line, and is easily
accessible from both the Mass Pike and Route 128.
